SYLVLITZ@GMAIL.COM
Sylv Litz was raised in Monterrey, NL, México. Some of the most prominent themes in Sylv’s work are related to experiences prior to coming to the U.S., as well as adjusting to life after relocating. At 11 years old, Sylv made the decision to move to Houston, Texas as a parachute child (moved countries while bio parent remained in country of origin). After receiving a scholarship to the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Sylv began their pursuit in the arts. Sylv obtained a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas, and an MFA in Multidisciplinary Studies from the Mount Royal School of Art at Maryland Institute College of Art while simultaneously working with the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting and the Sound Art department at MICA. Whether it is sound, performance, poetry, airbrush, 3D-printing, printmaking, installation, sculpture, or painting, their sensibility to Mexican culture is always at the forefront. The work navigates through subjects of family, artificial identity, and sustainability by using repurposed materials. At the root lies an existential practice in search of healing.
